Smok SID from Total Evapes

Available in six colors, the Smok SID is a variable volt and variable wattage mod that is minimalistic in design. The Smok SID is available in Black, Red, Purple, Gold, Blue, and Silver.

In researching the Smok SID, I found that I was not fond of the "SID" stamped on the side of the head and battery tube. I was also pleasantly surprised to note that the "SID" is no longer all over the unit. Mine is an all silver unit that fits perfectly with just about every clearomizer I have. Most of them are chrome or silver color.

I ended up taking my own pictures to show the unit in variour stages.

At the left is the unit before assembly. At the right, I have inserted an Efest "purple" 18650 battery and ready to assemble. Below is the assembled unit.

This looks slick.

SmokTech has designed this with a single button control to all functions. Essentially, you press the button three times and then cycle through the menu options until you find the one you want. You wait a few seconds until the screen blanks out and then when you press the button again, you are in that function. While this does take a bit of a learning curve, fortunately you do not need the menu that often. Once you set this device, it remembers the settings – even through battery changes.

I always set mods in variable wattage, and usually at 8.5 watts. In this, the Smok SID is identical to all other devices. Regardless of the clearomizer I used (or coil resistance), the vaping experience was identical.

The Smok SID features:

  • User selectable volt or watt adjustment
  • Variable volts: from 3.0 to 6.0 volts in 0.1 volt increments
  • Variable wattage: from 3.0 to 15 watts in 0.5 watt increments
  • Short circuit protection
  • Reverse battery protection
  • Battery monitoring
  • Over-discharge protection
  • Vented cap
  • Oxidized aluminum body (without the SID silk screening)
  • Easy to read OLED display
  • One-button menu system

The Smok SID also features a maximum of 4 amp output. Most devices limit amp output to 2.5 amp (some to 3.0 amp), so this is one feature many mod users will appreciate.

The Smok SID is 22.2 mm in diameter (0.87 in.). Without the clearomizer, the height is exactly 130 mm (5.12 in.). With a removable beauty ring, the inside thread area can be cleaned easily. The threads support a wide compatibility of any 510 and/or eGo clearomizer. While I do not have a scale to weight the Smok SID, it is light even with the battery and fully assembled. This is an aluminum body and the light weight is welcome compared to other heavier devices.

You should note that the Smok website that displays the color availability for the SID has only two pictures. One of those is show at the top right. While it looks like there is a short bottom screw cap for the battery tube at the bottom, the battery tube is actually the entire bottom unit almost touching the button. You insert the battery in the tube and thread that onto the head.

I was fortunate to get to test this with the new Efest "purple" 18650 battery that Total Evapes provided. This is a new design from Efest and rated at 2100 mAh and 30A – super high drain and should last a full day without needing a recharged replacement.

Once you thread the battery tube onto the Smok SID head, the unit is ready to use. There is no five on / five off to trigger the Smok SID to life.

Total Evapes has an incredible deal on this unit: the Smok SID is available for $45. If you are fortunate to live in the GTA, you can also arrange for pick up and avoid shipping wait times and costs. I can't wait to try this with an 18350 tube ...
